Iceland: The Laugavegur Trail

Day 6: Back to Reykjavik

All good things must come to end. Lest we forget to appreciate them. Our last morning in Thórsmörk began—finally—with a leisurely morning coffee and the bacon and eggs we were all craving from the day before.

We had to check out of our room by 10am though so we all made sure to have our things packed and outside the huts before breakfast. Once done it was time for one last short hike. More of a walk really. But what a walk. Up a steep hill it was for one last magnificent view of the surrounding area, a quick jaunt to a super cool spot called the singing cave, and, wouldn’t you know it, a stop at a nearby cafe/gift shop for a snack break. A couple of hours later we all loaded up and on our bus for the four hour ride back to Reykjavik.

Once back in town we all said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. It’s always sad and a bit weird when that happens at the end of a group trip, especially one where everyone bonds so well. But what I’ve come to realize after being on several of these the last few years is that the groups are a bubble created for a specific purpose. Once that purpose is met the bubble bursts and that’s that. You’re left with your memories and maybe a couple more folks added to your social media channels. It’s all good though.

In any case, once off the bus, I found my way to the guesthouse I booked for the evening, took a quick shower and rocked my way up to the bar at ROK, one my favorite Reykjavik haunts for dinner. Yes, I’ve been here enough times to have favorite restaurants.

It’s funny when I flew in last week I genuinely thought this was likely my last time in Iceland. I mean it’s been three times. Now, after taking one last walk to the waterfront and its sparkling Viking ship sculpture I’m not so sure. I mean, I am planning a trip to Greenland at some point and I do have to fly through Reykjavik right? ❤️
